Abandonment Issues - A Photo Series by Cheryl McDonald
“I have been photographing the reset for almost 3 years now and am fascinated by the abandoned towns that populate our desert. There is a voyeuristic quality about discovering what has been left behind. What we choose to take with us when we move on is very often based on necessity and what gets left behind can make an interesting statement about the culture and life processes of a society. Many of the images are of windows or views through windows. This also plays with the idea of voyeurism and issues surrounding privacy and what we give up when we leave out past behind.”
45 pages of beautifully photos the abandoned California cities of Bodie, Darwin, Dunmovin, Death Valley Junction, Burro Schmidt Tunnel & Bickel Camp and areas around Randsburg.

I picked this book after seeing Cheryl's photos on display at the Maturango Museum. After looking at the photos I got out my map and began mapping the areas where the photos were taken. Next step will be to take a ride out to some of these areas.
